Job Summary
The HSE Officer will be our safety leader. He / She will be responsible for establishing Health Safety and Environmental (HSE) standards for performance, on-site safety inspections/audits, safety program development, safety training, hazard assessment, industrial hygiene and commitment to zero accidents. He / she will also provide support and counsel to Management to ensure compliance with applicable health and safety regulations as it concerns our operations as well as corporate policies and procedures. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reviewing, interpreting and educating management and the workforce on health, safety and environmental laws, rules and regulations.
  • Developing, implementing and monitoring of safety inspections, audits and corrective action programs.
  • Coordinating training, drills and toolbox meetings as part of HSE implementation plans.
  • Maintaining appropriate administrative documentation for corrective action programs.
  • Coordinating emergency response and incident / accident investigations functions and ensuring they are performed according to standards.
  • Developing, analysing, and reporting facility statistics regarding safety and making recommendations to key management personnel.
  • Protecting Company’s public and industry reputation by ensuring adherence to health, safety and environmental policies, procedures and standards.
  • Preparing written documents, reports, studies, proposals, budget documents, and correspondence to convey and analyse information for management and staff.
  • Directing and overseeing the activities of contractors utilized for specialty health safety and environmental advice and counsel.
  • When requested, acting as a resource to help customers solve health and safety issues related to their use of company’s services.
  • Maintaining an understanding of emerging environmental and safety issues through seminars, conferences and coordination with outside agencies.
  • Assisting General Manager on all safety related issues and performing other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
Minimum of OND, Bachelors’ degree (BSC) or equivalent with certifications in HSE.
Minimum of 2 years health, safety and environmental related experience.

Competencies:
Working knowledge of applicable health, safety and environmental rules and regulations in Nigeria.
Must be capable of handling numerous projects concurrently.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
Attention to details
Strong organization and record keeping skills
Strong computer skills
Analytical and strategic planning skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Effective team leadership and team participation.
Effective oral and written communication abilities
